Shanghai, October 29 (Gasgoo.com) The Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Company (DPCA), a 50-50 joint venture between leading Chinese car producer Dongfeng Motor Corp and French auto giant Peugeot Citroen, said production of Fukang will not be suspended next year as reported by the media, the Beijing Youth Daily reported today.

"We have no plan to quit its production despite its sliding sales,” said Mr. Wei Wenqing, vice general manager of DPCA. Recently the monthly delivery of Fukang has hit only one thousand units or so, which has given rise to rumor about its possible production halt.

Wei said the company has completed construction of the second plant, where a high-end C5 is expected to be produced by next year.

He also confirmed the company has scaled down its sales target to 110,000 units for 2008 due to a slowing market and he didn't expect the market to recover even next year.

About 70 percent of Citroen's sales in China are generated by the C2, Elysee and Fukang, with the market price below 100,000 yuan ($14,280) for each.
