Shanghai, November 3 (Gasgoo.com) Brilliance Auto will continue to invest in its Sichuan plant for building the largest production base in western China, xinhuanet.com reported today, citing sources of Brilliance Auto headquartered in northwestern Chinese city of Shenyang.

As an important part for Brilliance Auto’s exports strategy, the automaker’s production base in Mianyang, Sichuan started operation in July, 2007 for exporting pickups, Jinbei series SUV, light bus and light truck and some other vehicles. The plant has an annual capacity of 60,000 units for the first phase and is expected to reach 100,000 by 2010, according to Brilliance Auto.

The May 12 earthquake in Sichuan devastated the automaker’s Mianyang plant and affected the production, but the production base soon resumed its manufacturing as Brilliance Auto quickly offered both material and workforce support.

Brilliance Auto said the earthquake will not hinder its steps to further invest in its Mianyang plant. Mianyang-made vehicles are expected to reach 100,000 units, with sales revenue totaling 6.5 billion yuan ($953 million) by 2010, the automaker said.
