Nissan to recall 431 Infiniti G35 cars for airbag defects

Shanghai, November 5 (Gasgoo.com) Nissan (China) Investment Co. has announced that it will recall 431 Infiniti G35 (type V36) in China from November 7 due to a faulty sensor system that could affect the car's passenger side airbag, xinhua.net reported, citing sources from China’s top quality watchdog.

The affected cars are 2007 editions of Infiniti G35 produced from May 11, 2007 to October 19, 2008, according to China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).

Nissan reported that a sensor located in the passenger seat cushion "may have been manufactured out of specifications. Under certain conditions, this could cause an interruption of signal between the OCS (Occupant Classification System -- which activates the airbag when the passenger seat is occupied) and the Airbag Control Unit, and could result in the passenger airbag being suppressed, which could fail to provide adequate protection in the event of a crash."

The Japanese automaker claims that there have been no injuries as a result of the defect in China. To fix the problem, Nissan (China) will offer free inspection and repair for the involved cars through its service station in China from November 7. The automaker said owners with questions could find the related information online at www.aqsiq.gov.cn.
