Nov. 10, 2008 (China Knowledge) - Nissan's sports utility vehicle (SUV) model X-Trail, manufactured by the Japanese auto maker's local joint venture Dongfeng Motor, has started to sell in Shanghai on Saturday, the Shanghai Securities News reported.

The launch of the new SUV model marks Dongfeng Motor's entry into the top-tier passenger car manufacturers' group in China as it has now become a full-line auto maker with products covering all passenger car models, including MPVs, SUVs, sedans and crossovers.

The JV is capable of producing 2,500 units of the new car per month, and it is expected to achieve sales target of 5,000 units by the end of the year, according to a company executive.

Launched in 2000, Nissan's X-Trail has been sold in 167 countries, with sales of over 800,000 units.
