Shanghai to enforce China IV standard on Nov 1
Shanghai, January 9 (Gasgoo.com) Shanghai Environmental Protection Agency announced today that from Nov.1, 2009, China's national vehicle emission standard IV ("China IV standard" for short) will be applicable to all light petrol vehicles, public buses, and special vehicles such as postal cars and environmental vehicles that are newly registered in Shanghai. Vehicles failing to meet the standard will not be registered and the sales will be halted, xinhua.net said today.
The China IV standard, to be effective in Shanghai ahead of its nationwide implementation, is equivalent to the Europe IV standard used by EU members since 2006. China's newly adopted standard is even stricter than its national standard III, cutting emissions 30% to 50% more than the latter.
The China IV standard will take effect around the country as late as 2011, the report said.
