Chery A6 coupe spied with Lotus in UK

The Chery A6 coupe has been spied testing in the UK. It will be the Chinese company's flagship model when it launches in the European market later this year.

Chery has previously said that it intends to become a major force in western markets.

This late-model prototype was caught testing near the Lotus HQ in Norfolk, suggesting that the British company is helping with the final chassis tweaks and powertrain calibration.

Reports from China say that the car should be available with either a 2.0-litre turbo engine or a 3.0-litre V6. Both are said to meet Euro V emissions standards.

The Chery A6 was styled with the involvement of Italian design house Bertone and made its debut in concept form at the 2007 Shanghai auto show.

It is based on an all-new platform, which is designed to meet European crash test standards. The platform will also spawn a saloon car and compact SUV.

Further spin-offs from this A6 include a hatchback 'shooting brake' version and, possibly, a folding-roof coupe.
