Changan Ford to boost small-car development
Shanghai, March 16 (Gasgoo.com) Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Co plans to enhance its small vehicle development and market expansion in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, Guangzhou Daily reported today, citing sources.
The joint venture expects China’s auto market to grow 10 percent for five years, Zou Wenchao, executive vice-president of Chang’an Ford Mazda said. Besides the government stimulus plan for the automotive industry which has begun to take effect, China’s auto market also has great potential demand, he explained.
China had more than 12,000 units Ford Focus registered in January, Zou disclosed.
According to Zou, Ford’s Chinese business wasn’t badly affected by its North American parent. The ailing US-based automaker expected its three-party venture - Chang’an Ford Mazda Automobile Co Ltd - to have faster sales growth than China’s auto industry average growth this year as it promotes small cars, said Nigel Harris, general manager of the venture’s sales branch.
Ford will introduce its all-new EcoBoost engines to Changan Ford Mazda and a series of new models for the Chinese market by 2011, said Shen Yingquan, president of the company.
In 2009, Changan Ford Mazda plans to expand its sales networks in tier 2 and tier 3 cities, said Zou Wenchao. The automaker owned 207 dealerships and 110 other delaership branches in total last year.
