Harbin to be co-op project base for GM and FAW
Shanghai, March 19 (Gasgoo.com) The FAW Harbin Light Truck Factory in northeastern China's Heilongjiang province has been renamed as the FAW Harbin Light Vehicle Co Ltd. The company will launch its largest-scale technology transformation project and relocate to the new site of the Haping Road Industrial Park in the Harbin Development Zone, Nanfang Daily reported today, quoting sources from FAW Group.
In January GM and FAW signed a preliminary agreement to start cooperation in the light commercial vehicle field, yet at that time it was not confirmed that FAW will select which light commercial vehicle module for collaboration. Last week, Nanfang Daily’s reporter was informed that the two parties have reached a consensus of using the FAW Harbin Light Truck Factory as their light commercial vehicle project base.
At the end of February, the president of GM China Investment Co. Ltd., Kevin E Wale officially visited the Governor of Heilongjiang province Li Zhanshu. It is reported that the FAW Harbin Light Duty Truck Factory will serve as the major part of the joint venture in the light commercial vehicle cooperation project between GM and FAW.
Sources from FAW said that the JV has already come to the practical phrase and public announcement can be expected this month if things go according to plan.
