GM rolls out green-tech models to China market
Shanghai, March 19 (Gasgoo.com) The Buick Regal will be powered with a turbocharger engine, the Chevrolet Cruze will be facilitated by a six-speed automatic transmission, and the Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle will be launched in 2011……Last week, GM global product R&D VP, Tom Stephens announced the company’s “power train” plan and released its campaign schedule of implementing green energy projects via utilizing innovative technology, according to xinhuanet.com’s report.
Stephens pointed out that in the coming years GM will further improve the fuel efficiency of the traditional auto engine and decrease emission via applying the turbocharger, direct-injection technology, energy-efficiency ECOTEC engine as well as cutting-edge six-speed automatic transmission in a broader scope.
He also mentioned that GM will take the initiative in automobile product electrification in the Chinese market and further enhance the company’s global leadership in automobile energy efficiency by launching the advanced Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle in the Chinese market in 2011.

The upcoming Chevrolet Cruze model will be facilitated with the latest 1.6 and 1.8-liter ECOTEC engine, which is renowned for its fuel-efficiency performance. For the Chinese market, the ECOTEC four-cylinder engine has 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter versions, which are respectively applied in the Buick Regal 2.0-liter, 2.4-liter models, as well as the Buick LaCROSSE 2.4-liter model.

In the second half of 2009, GM’s first-ever turbocharger engine in China will be applied to the new Buick Regal model. According to GM’s plan, the 1.6-liter turbocharger engine will be applied to several new models including the Chevrolet Cruze. With maximum output power of 132 KW / 180 HP, the 1.6-liter turbocharger engine can produce abundant torque output of 230 Nm when the engine speed is between 1980 rpm and 5500 rpm. In addition, the turbocharger engine can further activate its superior electric power leaping function to realize the biggest torque output of 266 Nm.
