Maserati recalls 171 flawed luxury cars in China
Shanghai, March 19 (Gasgoo.com) Ferrari Maserati Cars Sales and Services (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. yesterday began to recall 171 defective luxury cars in China. They were made in Italy before February 24, 2009 and equipped with the flawed parking sensor, sina.com said today.
Ferrari Maserati Shanghai has submitted a recall report to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China (AQSIQ), the nation's quality authority. The affected car models are Maserati Quattroporte series, GranTurismo, and GranTurismo S. They have been sold in the Chinese market as imported cars.
These affected sedans have something wrong with the instrument panel. When the parking sensor's "park and drive" function is started, the alarm buzzer may fail to sound the alert if the safety belt is not buckled. This may cause risks to the driver and passengers alike.
Ferrari Maserati Shanghai is the solely licensed retailer in Shanghai and Jiangsu province. The Shanghai-based joint venture, in which Ferrari is the major shareholder, will notify customers about safety tests and free upgrades of the instrument panel software to get rid of the defect and hazard.
Due to flaws in the car suspension system, Italian luxury car maker's Shanghai company also recalled 659 Maserati sedans of the three models in China starting at the end of December 2008.
