Dongfeng Peugeot in talks to make Peugeot 308
Shanghai, March 24 (Gasgoo.com) Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile(DPCA) is in talks with its French partner PSA over introducing Peugeot 308, the replacement of Peugeot 307, to Dongfeng Peugeot for Chinese manufacturing, reported Beijing Morning Post.
Early last year, DPCA intended to produce Peugeot 308 in China. The joint venture hopes to manufacture the new Peugeot model through localized modification by its own R&D center, an insider of DPCA told reporters.
The Peugeot 308, a small family car produced by the French car manufacturer PSA, was first unveiled on June 5, 2007 in France and was the flagship model of Peugeot for medium-grade car market.
Peugeot 308 was based upon the old 307's chassis, but it has the new bodywork and is slightly longer and wider, measuring 4.25 meters in lenght.
The Peugeot 308 holds the world record of the most fuel-efficient mainstream car currently under production, having averaged 3.13 litres per 100 kilometers over a distance of 14,580 kilometers.
Priced at least 18,000 euros in France, the Peugeot 308 targets Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus, and Opel Astra as its close rivals.
