Shanghai, April 13 (Gasgoo.com) In the first quarter this year, Dongfeng Peugeot sold 22,662 passenger cars, exceeding its quarterly sales goal, xinhuanet.com said today. This has laid a sound foundation for the joint venture's 2009 target of selling 97,000 cars.

The 307 series, 207 series and 206 series of Dongfeng Peugeot have seen sales growth simultaneously. With the launch of the Peugeot 207 hatchback model, the sales of Dongfeng Peugeot 207 series have been growing rapidly, which has also contributed to the company's breakthrough in the first quarter sales.

Dongfeng Peugeot dealers said that buyers would have to wait for a week to pick up the newly released Peugot 207 hatchback, but most of the cars of the Peugeot 307 and 206 series can be driven away on the day of the purchase.

Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile (DPCA) last month said it was in talks with its French partner PSA over introducing Peugeot 308, the replacement of Peugeot 307, to Dongfeng Peugeot for Chinese manufacturing.

Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen sales in March exceeded 20,000 units.
