FAW shows 22 own-brand models in Shanghai

Shanghai, April 21 (Gasgoo.com) Chinese auto giant FAW Group has brought 22 vehicle models of its four own brands Jiefang, Hongqi, Xiali and Besturn, 11 engines and three transmission products to the 2009 Shanghai auto show, xinhuanet.com reported today.

Displayed on the "China FAW" stages are the company's self-developed products, which include the high-end Hongqi SUV, B-class Besturn sedan, Besturn B50 HEV hybrid sedan, hybrid bus, and the top-class CA12GV engine (China’s first self-developed V-12 engine). They reflect the new energy technology development and application by the Chinese automaker.

Of FAW's 22 own-brand vehicle models, four all-new passenger car models will be released to the market soon. In addition, two medium- and heavy-duty trucks are also set for launch this year. The FAW vehicle products displayed at the Shanghai auto show cover every segment of the auto market and can cater to different needs of the customers.

Besides its successful partnership with global automakers Volkswagen AG, Toyota Motor and Mazda Motor for the Chinese market, FAW Group has been pursuing a strategy of boosting its own-brand vehicle development. 

FAW said it would increase research and development (R&D) spending by 61% to 4.23 billion yuan ($619 million) this year.
