New BMW X5 M has world debut in Shanghai
Shanghai, April 23 (Gasgoo.com) The all-new 171mph BMW X5 M has made its world premiere at the 2009 Shanghai auto show this week, sina.com said. The new BMW X5 M and the forthcoming X6 M will be the first SUVs in BMW's range to get the M treatment.
The X5 M will use a new twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8, which produces 547bhp and maximum torque of 501lb-ft delivered between 1,500rpm and 5,650rpm. There's also the M Sports Automatic transmission which features six ratios, launch control and paddle shifts.
As a result, the X5 will go from 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds and then up to limited top speed of 155mph. Top speed extends to 171mph with the optional M driver's package.
The new X5 M gets exterior changes to go with its increased performance. Air intakes in the front bumper, gills on the front wings and quad exhaust pipes at the rear make up the selection of external upgrades.
BMW's EfficientDynamics technology features brake energy regeneration and an air-con system that can detach itself from the belt drive.
BMW, the world's largest premium car maker, also unveiled BMW 760 Li, a new model in its 7 Series, at the Shanghai show. The BMW 760 Li sedan has a 6-liter, 12 cylinder engine.
