GM to start importing cars from China in 2011

General Motors Corp. expects to sell 3.1 million vehicles in the United States by 2014 -- more than 1 million more than what it plans to sell this year.

In a confidential 12-page presentation to members of Congress, obtained by The Detroit News, GM said it expects to sell 2,048,000 vehicles in 2009 and 2.4 million in 2010.

GM disclosed it will start importing vehicles made in China starting in 2011 and expects to import 51,546 in 2014. It also sees imports from South Korea to the United States jumping from 36,967 to 157,126 in 2014.
