Mercedes-Benz China sales rise 72% y/y in April
Shanghai, May 14 (Gasgoo.com) Mercedes-Benz has posted China sales of 16,500 units for the first four months of 2009, according to the company's own data, a rise of 40% year-on-year (y/y). According to Beijing Times, Mercedes-Benz sold 5,400 units in April, surging by 72% y/y, the best single-month sales in the history.
"With China's auto market rebounding, Mercedes-Benz continually creates its sales record, which strengthens our confidence in China market," said Klaus Maier, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz (China) Ltd (MBCL).
Mercedes-Benz's flagship S-class cars sold 1,200 units in April, a persistent leader in this segment. The Mercedes-Benz GLK compact SUV has reported sales of 1,200 units in three months since it went on sale. GL sales rose 96% y/y and SLK convertible sports car sales rose 79% y/y. Other models like R-class Grand Sports Tourer, B-class Grand Sports Tourer and Smart all posted hot sales.
Its China-made C-class vehicles doubled its sales in April from the previous month. During the same period, sales of China-made E-class vehicles rose 41% y/y.
