Daimler April China sales up 59% to 5,600 units
Shanghai, May 15 (Gasgoo.com) Daimler AG's sales in China, including Hong Kong, in April surged 59% from a year earlier to a monthly record high of 5,600 units, company spokesman Trevor Hale said Thursday, quoted by Dow Jones Newswires.
Sales in the first four months of the year rose 32% from a year earlier to 17,400 units in China's mainland and Hong Kong, Hale said.
Daimler sold 16,500 units in mainland China alone in the January-April period, up 40% from a year earlier, according to Mr. Hale.
Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche said last month that he expected Mercedes-Benz to outsell premium auto brand rival BMW in China by about two to three years from now.
He said Mercedes-Benz had been China's fastest-growing luxury auto brand for the past three years.
