China not interested in military Hummer

The U.S. Army is appeasing people's concerns by clarifying that "General Motors' deal to sell a Chinese company has nothing to do with the military version of the rugged vehicle."

An AP report said the Pentagon, Capitol Hill and AM General LLC, the company that makes the military vehicles, were called by some people and asked if the rights to the Humvee had been sold to the Chinese.

Steve Clawson, spokesman for AM General, said the military and civilian programs are separate.

There have been a wide spread concerns on the internet over whether military technology involved in Hummer will be sold to Chinese automaker Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co too after GM announced the sale on June 2.

Some readers are asking in comments that “were they able to obtain the engineering data used to develop the original Humuee versions when they obtained the Hummer name? Did that military technology get sold to the Chinese Government in this package?"

Nothing to worry about, I think. If selling Hummer really jeopardize national interests, the U.S. government will definitely block the deal. No one can buy the military Hummer unless they have permission from U.S. government.

What's more, the unarmored combat vehicles are very old indeed and the Pentagon has announced to use seven ton JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle) to replace Hummer in the combat zone, like Iraq, very soon. So it won't make sense for China to buy an old horse.

Another aspect, Dongfeng Motor Corp., one of China's biggest automakers, has already launched the military and civilian version of a Mengshi in China. Key engineering data of the military Mengshi already exceed Hummer A2 used by US military.
