Guangzhou Honda sells 30,296 cars in May, up 9%

Shanghai, June 10 (Gasgoo.com) Guangzhou Honda sold 30,296 cars in May, up 9.43% year on year (y/y) and up 16.42% month on month, xinhuanet.com reported today.

The joint venture, which makes mid- to high-end sedans of Accord, Odyssey, Fit ands City brands in China's southern city of Guangzhou, said its sales in the first five months this year totaled 128,963 units.

The 8th-generation Accord sold 14,048 units in May, leading the monthly sales of mid- to high-end sedans in the China market since May 2008. The Accord achieved sales of 63,598 units from January to May and is expected to be the best-seller of its kind in the first half of this year.

The medium-size City model sold 37,705 units in the first five months, with 9,616 units sold in May. An official of Guangzhou Honda said that the City is still in short supply and the company is boosting the output of this car model to meet the growing demand.

Guangzhou Honda expected its car sales to exceed a target of 330,000 units for 2009 following a recovery in China's auto market. The venture sold 306,242 cars in 2008, up 3.7% from a year earlier.
