Ford Spain seeks 600 voluntary redundancies

Ford Motor Co has told unions it wants 600 redundances at its plant in Valencia, and hopes they will be voluntary, Spanish newspapers reported on Saturday.

The company will negotiate the proposals for the permanent reduction in the plant's 5,000-strong workforce with unions in September, La Gaceta reported.

Union officials said they wanted to see details and do not think the plant has too many workers despite depressed demand, the newspaper said.

The company reduced production at the plant earlier this year.
