China-built Citroen C5 sedan set for launch in Oct

Shanghai, September 28 (Gasgoo.com) Dongfeng-Citroen is set to launch its Citroen C5 sedan in October, pushing the first mid-sized French sedan back into the Chinese market after the unsuccessful launch of the Peugeot 505 in the mid-1990's, China Car Times said recently.

The Citroen C5 made by Dongfeng-Citroen is expected to sell at 200,000 yuan ($29,300) to 300,000 yuan. The C5 will find itself some stiff competition from Chinese-made VW Magotan, Toyota Camry, and Honda Accord, all of which are highly popular cars in that segment.

Modified for local tastes at Citroen's Chinese venture, the new Citroen C5 is 4,780mm long, with its travel version measuring 4,830mm x 1,860mm x 1,450mm. Its roof and waistline have fused the designs of the classical Citroen DS and futuristic CX and XM models.

The China-made Citroen C5 will be coming to the market next month with 1.8-liter, 2.0-liter and 3.0-liter gasoline editions. It is the first model to be built on joint venture Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile (DPCA)'s newly launched Platform 3.

In China, it certainly seems that the mid-size sedan segment is dominated by the Japanese and German automakers, but soon the French plan on getting in on the action too, China Car Times said.
