Shanghai, October 15 (Gasgoo.com) Chinese vehicle manufacturer Chery Automobile Co announced on Wednesday that it would invest US$500 million to build an assembly plant in Turkey in cooperation with its Turkey distribution partner, Mermerler Group.

The facility, which will have minimum output capacity of 100,000 vehicles per year, will initially produce Chery A1 and A3 models.

Two days ago Turkish media Today's Zaman said construction on the plant is scheduled to begin by the end of this year.

Chery's aim in setting up a facility in Turkey is to export cars to Europe to avoid extra custom fees, according to the report.
