Shanghai, December 11 (Gasgoo.com) Changan Ford Mazda, Ford Motor's passenger car joint venture in China, is recalling 11,112 Volvo S40 sedans because of an oil pump flaw, Dow Jones reported today, citing China's quality regulator.

The recall affects vehicles made by the venture between December 1, 2006, and October 9, 2008, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in a statement yesterday.

A loose oil pump connection may cause oil leakages in extreme cases, the regulator said in the statement. Owners of affected cars can drive to a near Chinese service center of Ford and Volvo to get the defective parts repaired and fixed for free.

In addition to its own Focus and Mondeo sedans, Ford also makes some of its Swedish unit Volvo's sedan models at the Chinese venture with Changan Auto located in southwestern city of Chongqing.

Volvo's operations in China may be included in the possible takeover by Geely, a Chinese automaker that has been picked by Ford as the preferred bidder for its struggling Volvo car unit.
