Great Wall Motor aims for 400,000 vehicles in 2010

Great Wall Motor aims to sell 380,000 to 400,000 vehicles in 2010, Jia Yongning, manager of the company's media department told the Global Times in a phone call interview Wednesday.

This year the Chinese automaker plans to increase the number of dealers to 580 by setting up about 100 more dealers and to carry out effective distribution management.

Jia said the company will release five new models in 2010, including the SUV Hover M2, the Hover H3 with a diesel engine and an A-Class compact sedan which will be launched at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show.

Great Wall Motor sold about 225,000 vehicles in 2009, up 77 percent from a year earlier. Compared with sales in 2008, the automaker's sales in the Chinese mainland last year increased 155 percent.

In December 2009, Great Wall Motor sold 36,930 vehicles, up 48 percent compared with the previous month, and gains of 278 percent year-on-year, a record for the company. Its SUV Hover series models had sales of 12,168 units last month. The carmaker also sold 9,068 pickups and 12,861 sedans.

In 2009, the company exported about 40,000 vehicles.
