S Korea sees rise in imported car sales in Feb

South Korea saw a hike in imported car sales in February from a year ago on the back of newly introduced brands, industry data showed Thursday.

Imported car sales amounted to 6,438 units last month, soaring 75.8 percent from 3,663 units in a year ago, said a report by the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association.

During the first two months of 2010, imported cars sold in the South Korean market came in at 12,815 units, which was also an on- year 72.6 percent increase.

While Germany's Mercedes Benz secured the top rank with 1,377 units sold last month, Volkswagen and BMW followed the German carmaker with 1,015 units and 911 units, respectively, the data showed.
