SAIC Jan-Feb sales up 67% to 556,000 vehicles

SAIC Motor, China's largest automaker, said on Tuesday its total vehicle sales for January and February were up 67 percent from the same period a year before.

SAIC, a China partner of General Motors and Volkswagen, said it sold 556,000 vehicles in the January-February period, versus 332,000 units in the same period last year.

SAIC said vehicle sales for February were up 45 percent to 248,000 compared with 171,000 in February 2009. The company's venture with Volkswagen sold 60,000 vehicles and that with GM 59,000 vehicles during the month.

The company is expected to roll out at least four of its own-brand models during the year, SAIC president Chen Hong said over the weekend.
