BYD F3 leads China Feb sedan sales at 21,300 units
Shanghai, March 12 (Gasgoo.com) China's passenger car sales in February rose 55.3% from a year earlier to 942,900 units, and the BYD F3 was the top-selling sedan model during the month, close to 21,300 units, media reported.
Campared with January sales of 1.32 million (up 110%), car sales in the Chinese market were slightly down in February due to the week-long Lunar New Year holiday and the slightly shorter month. However, the BYD F3 has come to top the ranks yet again, probably thanks to BYD's fame for making high-quality, low-price cars.
According to China Car Times, sales of the top 10 best-selling sedan models last month in the Chinese market are listed as follows, led by BYD F3:
1. BYD F3 – 21,300 units
2. VW Lavida – 16,300
3. VW Santana – 15,800
4. Buick Excelle – 14,500
5. Honda Accord – 14,000
6. Xiali – 13,800
7. Chevrolet Cruze –13,500
8. Toyota Corolla – 12,800
9. Hyundai Elantra – 12,200
10. Hyundai Elantra Yue Xiang – 12,100
Amid the recall crisis, Toyota Motor dropped from the top 10 carmakers in China's February sales, but that appears to have not dampened Toyota Corolla sales in the Chinese market last month. Hyundai are still performing well, selling two generation models side by side to meet various demands.
Boosted by its hot-selling F3 model, BYD sold 34,184 cars in February, up 43.5% from a year earlier, bringing its sales in the first two months to 95,399 units, up 108.6%.
BYD, backed by U.S. billionaire Warren Buffett, plans to export up to 10% of the 800,000 vehicles it expects to produce and sell this year, a sharp increase from last year when it exported about 2.2% of its 450,000 vehicles sold.
