Shanghai, March 18 (Gasgoo.com) Mercedes-Benz continued its success story in mainland China last month with a year-on-year growth of 160% by selling 7,200 units of Mercedes-Benz, Smart, AMG and Maybach, the premium car company said on its China website recently.

The luxury car maker, Daimler AG's premium car division, tallied its China sales in the first two months to more than 15,300 units, up 155% from a year earlier, maintaining its position as the fastest-growing luxury brand in China, now the world's largest auto market.

The S-Class grew by 115% in February, once again positioning China as its biggest market in the world. An upgrade of the new generation S-Class lineup last month helped Mercedes-Benz's flagship model continue to set the pace in auto development.

The all-new E-Class became Mercedes-Benz's top-selling model in China last month, with total sales nearing 4,000 units for the first two months, and the locally produced C-Class sold 1,400 sedans, up 73%, as one of Mercedes-Benz's sales leaders.

"Mercedes-Benz celebrated Chinese New Year with yet another month of sales growth. We will enjoy prolonged success in this fast-growing market as we further strengthen our leadership position in the luxury segment," said Klaus Maier, President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz (China) Ltd.

The German luxury car company said its global sales were up 8.9% year on year in February to 78,700 cars, with the core Mercedes-Benz brand posting a 13% rise to 72,100 units.

Mercedes-Benz, which competes with BMW, Audi among others globally, said its record sales of 68,500 cars in China last year beat its previous target of 65,000 units.
