GM China April sales grow 41% to 213,115 vehicles
Shanghai, May 7 (Gasgoo.com) General Motors said yesterday that its sales in China grew 41.1% from a year earlier to 213,115 vehicles in April, media reported. In the first four months this year, GM China sales totaled 836,661 units.
Shanghai GM, the U.S. auto giant's flagship car venture in China with SAIC Motor, sold 89,562 vehicles last month, up 62.1% year on year, and sales at its mini-commercial vehicle venture SAIC-GM-Wuling rose 18.9% to 113,633 units in April.
FAW-GM, GM's newly formed light-duty truck joint venture with China's No. 2 automaker FAW Group, sold 9,795 vehicles last month (down from 13,200 in March).
April sales show some slowdown from March, in which GM China sales surged 68% from a year earlier to a new monthly record of 230,048 vehicles, with Shanghai GM up 89% to 86,967 units and SAIC-GM-Wuling up 43% to 129,489.
GM China aims to sell over 2 million vehicles this year, up from 1.83 million in 2009, with more than half of the sales still to be achieved by SAIC-GM-Wuling. GM expects its China sales to exceed 3 million units by 2015.
By the end of 2011, GM will launch at least 25 new or modified models in China, which overtook the United States to become the world's largest auto market last year thanks to government stimulus measures.
