Shanghai, May 11 (Gasgoo.com) Toyota Motor has said that the company, along with its local joint ventures, sold 64,000 vehicles in China last month, up 32% from a year earlier.

Its China sales rose 37% year on year to 242,000 units during the first four months, the largest Japanese carmaker said on Friday.

China, the world's largest auto market, is a growth area for Toyota's sales. The Japanese company sold 709,000 vehicles in China last year, up 21% and is targeting a 13% growth to 800,000 units this year.

Toyota plans to introduce its plug-in hybrid cars on a trial basis to the Chinese market as soon as possible and is considering a new, small, low-priced car for the Chinese market.

Toyota Motor will begin production at factory in Changchun in early 2012. The site would be the third factory operated by Toyota's local joint venture with FAW Group.

The Japanese car company also operates another joint venture in southern China with Guangzhou Auto Group, producing Camry and other models.
