Shanghai, May 11 (Gasgoo.com) Daimler AG's luxury car division Mercedes-Benz Cars continued its growth in China by selling a record 11,040 vehicles in April, up 105% from a year earlier, Mercedes-Benz (China) Ltd. said today, Dow Jones reported.

The fast sales growth is mainly attributed to a model of the E-Class sedan that is tailor-made for the Chinese buyers. The locally produced long-wheelbase E-Class is part of the German automaker's plan to increase its market share in China's luxury car market dominated by Audi.

April sales of the Mercedes-Benz, Smart, AMG and Maybach brands helped push the company's China sales in the first four months of the year to nearly 35,000 units, up 110% from a year earlier.

The E-Class sold 3,790 units in April, bringing sales of the model to nearly 10,000 units in the four-month period. The locally produced C-Class sedan recorded a 70% increase in April sales.

Mercedes-Benz, competing with BMW, Audi among others globally, sold 68,500 cars in China last year, and will launch more new models this year to boost sales in the world's largest auto market.
