Chery Auto Jan-Apr sales up 58% to 215,963 vehicles

Shanghai, May 13 (Gasgoo.com) Chery Auto saw it vehicle sales in the first four months rise 58% from a year earlier to 5215,963 vehicles, ranking first in terms of Chinese own-brand auto sales, reported China Securities Journal.

In April, Chery sold 52,379 vehicles, up 22%, including exports of 5,356 units, up 70.2% year-on-year, according to the data from the China Passenger Car Association. Chery's vehicles have been exported to more than 80 countries and regions.

With its 2 millionth vehicle rolling of the production line on March 26, Chery Auto has become the fifth largest maker of passenger vehicles in China. It is also the country's first home-grown automaker that has produced 2 million cars.

Chery sold 500,000 cars in 2009 and expects its sales to reach 900,000 units this year by launching 17 new models under its three brands, including the Chery M14 sports car, Riich G3 and G6 sedans, and Rely X5 SUV.

The company's annual production capacity, currently at 650,000 units, will be boosted to more than 1 million vehicles by early 2012 after the two new facilities now under construction go into operation.
