Shanghai, May 14 (Gasgoo.com) Differing from most carmakers' development on the plug-in electric vehicles, Chery Automobile, China's largest independent auto producer in Anhui province, is seeking a new charging solution for EVs.

On April 24, Chery signed a technical cooperation agreement in Beijing with Better Place, world's leading company on electric vehicle (EV) charging battery and service. Under the deal, the two companies will collaborate on solutions for mass-producible EV switchable battery and advanced charging network to enhance the competitiveness of China's new energy vehicles.

Meanwhile, Chery is attempting to find government supports for EVs with switchable batteries.

At the recent Beijing Auto Show, Chery displayed a switchable-battery EV prototype, using the Chery Riich G5 Sedan platform and Better Place 's battery-switching and charging equipment.

This year, Chery will focus on accelerating the commercialization and marketing progress of new energy technology, and mass-produce the integrated starter generator (ISG) that boosts fuel efficiency by 30% and the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and all-electric vehicles. In addition, it will launch six models using the ISG, PHEV and all-electric technologies to make a major breakthrough in new energy technology.
