Chery Auto's Egyptian co-op lauded by senior official

Shanghai, June 8 (Gasgoo.com) A senior Chinese official on his visit to Egypt yesterday spoke highly of the successful cooperation between Chinese carmaker Chery Automobile and Daewoo Motors Egypt (DME), Xinhua News reported.

Wang Gang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, visited the DME plant in the western outskirts of Cairo yesterday.

The Chinese official said the cooperation between Chery Auto and DME has contributed to pushing forward the trade and economic cooperation between China and Egypt, and the development of the Egyptian auto industry.

Wang suggested that the automakers continue to uphold the principles of mutual benefit and common development and enhance their overall competitiveness to boom Egypt's car market and provide more and better products for Egyptian consumers.

Wang, heading a CPC delegation on a visit to Egypt, has held talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif and other top officials. The delegation arrived in Cairo on June 5.

Chery Auto signed a strategic partnership agreement with DME in November 2005. The Egyptian auto company started assembling Chery A5 sedans in August 2006.
