China May SUV sales jump 90.5% to 97,400 units

Shanghai, June 12 (Gasgoo.com) China's SUV sales in May jumped 90.5% year on year to 97,400 units, well above the passenger vehicle's 23.2% increase and the other vehicle segment's growth in the country's auto market, according to data recently released by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

According to the data, the Great Wall Hover H3 ranked first in May sales, followed by the Dongfeng-Honda CR-V, FAW-Toyota RAV4, Toyota Highlander, Shanghai-VW Tiguan, Dongfeng-Yueda-Kia Sportage, Huatai-Hyundai Santa Fe, Beijing Hyundai IX35, Dongfeng-Nissan Qashqai and Zotye 5008.

In May, the above first five SUV models posted sales of 15,213 units, 10,210 units, 6,443 units, 6,183 units and 6,146 units respectively, totaling 44,200 units which accounts for 43% of the total SUV sales.

Reportedly, the above first five SUV models currently are sold for 89,800 -152,300 yuan ($13,100-$22,300), 189,800-262,800 yuan, 189,800-264,300 yuan, 248,800-429,800 yuan and 199,800-309,800 yuan, respectively in China.

In January-May 2010, the top five SUVs by sales, in descending order, were the Hover, Honda CR-V, RAV4, Highlander and the Santa Fe, which reported sales of 58,400 units, 50,100 units, 40,000 units, 34,200 units and 30,800 units respectively, totaling 213,500 units which accounts for 45% of the total SUV sales in the China market.
