Shanghai, June 25 (Gasgoo.com) Chinese automaker Beiqi Foton Motor yesterday donated two Euro-V hybrid buses worth $440,000 to Moscow to help the Russian capital city improve its urban environment, Xinhua News reported.

Beijing Mayor Guo Jinlong said that nearly 1,000 Foton Motor Euro-V hybrid buses have been put into use for public transportation in Beijing and have reduced the city's vehicle emissions significantly. The Beijing Municipal Government is proud to be a partner in Moscow's efforts to shift toward greener urban transportation systems, he added.

"Our sister city, Beijing, has achieved this goal (of replacing the older-style buses with 1,000 new-energy buses) two years ahead of schedule. Moscow hopes to follow suit by introducing [buses made by] companies like Foton Motor to make our urban traffic more environmentally friendly," said said Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov at the donating ceremony.

As China's largest new-energy vehicle designer, Foton Motor could "introduce its technology and experience in new energy vehicles to Moscow as a contribution to the Russian capital's goal of reducing urban pollution," said Wang Jinyu, president of Foton Motor.

Foton Motor and the Moscow municipal government also announced the establishment of Foton Motor's European Auto Department and Foton Motor (Russia) Co., Ltd. at the ceremony, by signing a memorandum of cooperation.

Beijing-headquartered Beiqi Foton Motor, founded in 1996 as a subsidiary of Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co., Ltd. (BAIC, or Beijing Auto), is Asia's largest largest commercial vehicle manufacturer.
