Shanghai, July 5 (Gasgoo.com) China's independent carmaker Chery Auto launched a national auto test center on July 3 in its home base Wuhu city, eastern Anhui province, putting Asia's largest auto-tech test center into operation, Xinhua News reported today.

The auto test center, called Chery Automobile Test & Technology Center, also houses China's first ever "national laboratory of automobile energy efficiency and eco-friendly engineering." The state-of-the-art center will become the incubator for Chery's new technology and new products.

The center has seven lab sections for testing the components, vehicles, crash safety, noise and vibration, emissions, powertrain, and materials, and also includes a test track. Its crash lab is the largest in Asia. Phase two of the project will add two more labs.

At the center, Chery will develop, test and verify its new products, upgrade its products, provide test data and precision measurement of products. The center now is able to develop 30 new models and test 2 million vehicles per year.

Chery Auto has invested more than 800 million yuan ($1.18 million) in the facility that covers an area of 300,000 square meters. The company earlier said it would build a 10-sq km testing ground, also be the largest in Asia.
