Vietnam's H1 auto sales go up 5% to 50,278 units

Vietnam's automobile sales in the first half of this year went up 5 percent year-on-year to 50,278 units, said a report of Vietnam's Automobile Manufacturers' Association (VAMA) on Friday.

In June alone, 16 members of the association sold a total of 10, 052 units, a slight increase of 4 percent over the same period last year, said the report.

Last month, the Japanese-invested Toyota Vietnam regained its largest market share from the truck and bus maker Truong Hai with 2,905 units sold, up 35 percent year-on-year.

In June, sales of Truong Hai stood at 2,021 units, almost equal to the same month last year, said the report.

The domestic Vietnam Motors Industry Corporation (Vinamotor) came next with sales dropping 25 percent year-on-year to 1,033 units last month.

In 2009, automobile sales in Vietnam climbed 7 percent year-on- year to 119,460 units, according to VAMA.
