Shanghai, July 19 (Gasgoo.com) Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor's vehicle sales in the first half of the year surged 87.6% from a year earlier to 170,000 units, boosted by strong demands for its SUV and pickup models and recovery of the overseas markets, China Securities Journal reported recently.

In the first six months, Great Wall Motor's Hover SUVs sold 72,000 units, up 158.9% year on year, retaining its lead in China's SUV sales with 12% market share. Meanwhile, the company's Wingle pickups sold 49,000 units, up 54%, securing 27.1% pickup market share and selling best for 12 straight years in China.

From January to June, about 30,000 Great Wall vehicles were sold overseas, up 51% from a year earlier, ending its two-year decline in export. They were mainly sold to Australia, Italy, Chile, South Africa and Iraq. This year, the company seeks to export 60,000 vehicles.

With more than 600 outlets and 800-strong after-sale service stations across the world, Great Wall Motor has sold its SUVs, pickup trucks and sedans in more than 100 countries and regions during the past 13 years.

Great Wall Motor aims to sell 400,000 vehicles this year, anticipating a surge in sales starting August. The company will expand its sales network to 1,000 dealerships by the end of this year.
