First auto collision test center set up in Chery's lab

With a huge bang of two cars who both raced at a speed of 40 km/h crashing together, a brand-new milestone was set for Chery Automobile, China's leading independent automaker.

The company successfully conducted in its newly-built National Engineering Lab the nation's first auto 30-degree opposing collision test earlier this month on July 3, which put an end to the history wherein our self-owned brand cars are tested by foreign organizations.

Chery started setting up the Automobile Energy Saving and Environmental National Engineering Lab in March 2008. The lab was designed to be Asia's largest, most advanced and best equipped auto testing center. The total investment is over RMB 1.5 billion . The lab occupies some 300,000 sq meters, including 7 big labs dealing with auto parts, energy saving and environmental, passive safety testaments, etc., and a series of other critical international leading apparatus as well as many independently developed devices.

The first experiment Chery carried out after the completion of the National Engineering Lab was the 30-degree opposing collision. In this experiment, two autos ran at 80 km per hour on tracks that were 30 degrees opposed to each other and then collided. The ensuing examining showed that the autos were completely qualified.

Our national auto enterprises used to be controlled by developed countries in the field of quality as a result of ability deficiency in conducting our own collision experiments. Now Chery's new lab serves not only the corporation's R&D but also the nation's auto industry development. It will also break technical monopoly of developed countries and multi-national auto groups, and enhance the international competitive power of our own cars.
