Shanghai September 14 (Gasgoo.com) Beijing Hyundai Motor, a joint venture between Hyundai Motor and Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Corp (BAIC), saw record sales of  50,713 vehicles in August, shoring up its leading position in the domestic auto market, its franchised dealer Beijing Shunda said on Tuesday.

Beijing Hyundai has been able to maintain a steady growth in sales during the past eight months. With sales of over 30,000 units in January, it successfully moved up to the fourth place. Since then, its sales have been rising rapidly, breaking monthly sales of 50,000 units in both April and May and posting even higher growth in July and August, the traditional off-season.

In August, sales of the Hyundai Yuedong car surged 236% from a year earlier to 21,092 units. The brand sold more than 20,000 units in April, breaking 20,000 barrier for fifth consecutive months.

The car's sister brand Hyundai Elantra also had a good performance in the past months, with more than 16,000 units sold in April and May respectively. Last month, the Elantra boosted sales to 14,239 units, an increase of 156% over the previous year.

With the Hyundai i30 Hatchback going on sale in China, Beijing Hyundai has filled the gap in the hatchback car segment. The improvement in product line-up and brand image should bring the joint venture more development opportunities in the country.
