Hyundai to boost production in China
Hyundai Motor Co, South Korea's largest automaker, said that its total production capacity in China will reach 1 million vehicles annually after its third assembly plant in China starts operation in 2012, sources reported.
The new facility is expected to produce 400,000 cars a year.
Hyundai said earlier that the firm and its Chinese partner, Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Corp, will kick off the third manufacturing plant in September this year. The new plant is located at the Beijing River Industrial Development Zone in Shunyi district, Beijing.
Hyundai currently has two plants in China with total production capacity of 600,000 units. Last year, the automaker sold 570,000 cars in China.
In the period from January to August, Hyundai's sales in the Chinese market reached 437,000 vehicles. The company plans to hit a target of 670,000 cars in China this year.
