Volkswagen China sales robust in Jan-Aug period

FAW-Volkswagen -German carmaker Volkswagen's Chinese tie-up - surpassed its August passenger vehicle sales goal in China, by selling 85,000 units, up 26 percent from July. Its Volkswagen brand sold over 62,000 units, while luxury brand Audi delivered 22,000 cars.

Shanghai Volkswagen, its other joint venture, won the August domestic passenger vehicle crown by selling 86,330 units in China, a 32.1 percent increase from the same period last year. Its Volkswagen brand registered its largest-ever month sales volume in China.

Due to strong performance in China and recovering demand in the US, the German carmaker sold 545,500 vehicles globally, up 11.2 percent from a year ago.
