BYD building power storage station in Shenzhen
Shanghai September 29 (Gasgoo.com) Electric car maker BYD Co., backed by U.S. billionaire Warren Buffett, signed a framework agreement Monday with China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd. to build the world's first power storage station for commercial use, Jiefang Daily reported Wednesday.
The power storage station is reportedly to be built in Longgang District, Shenzhen, with construction starting September and ending in December this year.
Relying on the iron battery technology of BYD, the two sides will make joint efforts to solve storage problems with smart grid, through peak-clipping and valley-filling.
It is said that BYD's iron battery technology could increase the batteries' energy density to the level of more than four times of the sealed lead-acid batteries', with life cycle of 7,000 times. The environmental fitness of iron batteries is excellent as they can discharge stably at any temperature.
