Chery Sept auto sales break 70,000, up 37%

Shanghai October 13 (Gasgoo.com) Chery Auto said yesterday it reported sales of 70,336 vehicles in September, up 37% year-on-year and 24% month-on-month. Of which 10,564 units were exported, an increase of 71% from a year earlier, Xinhua news reported Wednesday.

The figures guaranteed Chery's leading position in the market as an own-brand automaker. The Anhui-based automaker has been maintaining a robust growth in sales in the first nine months, when it sold 475,228 units, accomplishing 68% of its full-year sales target. Chery Spokesperson Jin Yibo said with full confidence that the company can achieve the sales target of 700,000 units for 2010.

2010 is key year for Chery's overseas strategy. Year to date through September, the company has exported 67,865 vehicles. As world markets recover and Chery's sales network gets further improved, the company is expected to surpass its export target of 100,000 units, given that the current sales momentum maintains.

Up to now, a total of 29 models of Chery have jumped onto the three promoted energy-efficient model lists, the most among those of all domestic automakers. Chery Tiggo 3 is also listed on the catalog for government subsidies, the first SUV model qualified among all the homemade SUVs.
