First Automobile Works expects to begin deliveries of the first China-developed and -built fire trucks early next year, reports Xinhua. According to Zhao Fangkuan, CPC secretary of FAW, the company will deliver 106 fire engines to five provinces by the end of February 2011.

The truck was developed in collaboration with the Department of Public Security of Jilin. FAW plans to boost annual fire truck production capacity to 1,000 units by 2012.

Fire brigades in China have traditionally imported vehicles or purchased regular trucks that had been modified for fire-fighting. The FAW fire truck parts have been specially designed for fire-fighting and are less expensive than imported models, notes Zhao.
