Shenzhen releases EV development plan for next decade

From Global Times| November 09 , 2010 09:41 BJT

Officials from the domestic auto industry introduced the next ten-year development plan for electric vehicles Sunday on the opening ceremony of the 25th World Battery, Hybrid and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exhibition in Shenzhen.

"We hope to reduce costs and extend the service life of electric vehicles in the next five years. Besides subsidies, we are trying other methods to help develop the industry. By 2015, we expect to build a value chain of energy suppliers, automakers, and battery suppliers," said Ouyang Minggao, an official from the State Key Laboratory of Automotive Safety and Energy.

Shenzhen plans to develop all the three kinds of EVs -- hybrid electric vehicles, electric power vehicles, and fuel cell vehicles before 2015; and completely shift focus on pure electric power vehicles in the subsequent years. Production of electric autos is expected to reach 1 million in five years.

The 25th World Battery, Hybrid and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exhibition (EVS25) was held Sunday in Shenzhen. Chinese auto brand BYD made its presence and left its mark with new energy vehicles such as the models F3DM, E6, K9.
