Shanghai November 18 (Gasgoo.com) Fujian Daimler Automotive (FJDA), a joint venture with Fujian Motors Group (FJMG), China Motor Corp. (CMC) and Daimler AG, has now become Mercedes-Benz's global production base for commercial vehicles, depending on which FJDA expects to expand its business aboard, the Beijing Times reported Thursday.

As the 8,888th Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle Viano came off FJMG's production line on November 12, the Chinese joint venture has proved in the most persuasive way its vital importance as the only manufacturing base of Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles in Asia under Daimler AG's global strategy.

Earlier sales of the imported Mercedes-Benz Viano were only 1,000 units per year in China, while only half a year after FJMG rolled out the first Viano transporter in Fuzhou on April 16, the car's sales have exceeded 8,000 units.

In October, Mercedes-Benz saw its vehicle sales surge 119% from a year earlier to 14,000 units in China. In the first ten months, the luxury brand reported sales of 115,330 units in the country, a year-on-year growth of over 128%.
