From Reuters| November 24 , 2010 09:23 BJT

Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE) expects to sell more than 7 million vehicles for the first time this year, the German carmaker's chief executive said on Tuesday.

"The Volkswagen group is benefiting disproportionately from the upswing in the most important car markets," Martin Winterkorn told Reuters.

Volkswagen is aiming to dethrone Toyota (7203.T) as global market leader within a few years.

"This new delivery record is an important milestone for the implementation of our Strategy 2018," Winterkorn said, referring to the group's plan to sell more than 10 million cars by that year.
