Mazda recalling 6,738 cars in China

Mazda Motor Corporation plans to recall some of its 2009 and 2010 Mazda 5 cars due to a defect on the connectors of fuel distribution. The recall will involve 6,738 cars in the Chinese mainland, according to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).

The vehicles to be recalled were produced between June 30, 2009 and April 27, 2010. The cars are believed to have potential safety loopholes caused by the corrosion of the connector terminals: detection of water in fuel oil distribution modules stops them from being completely cleared, thus connector terminals can easily be corroded by the remaining water. In some extreme cases, the erosion could lead to a break-up of the terminals, causing the breakdown of the fuel pump, in which cases the vehicle cannot be restarted when the engine flames out in driving.

Faw Mazda Automobile Sales Co., LTD will examine the recalled cars and replace the problematic parts at no costs.
